Let's (re)connect in 2017

We are experiencing seismic shifts in our political landscape that challenge how each of us, as practitioners, researchers, or funders of capacity building, to determine how we can best support social change efforts, vulnerable populations, the core ideals of democracy, and diverse expressions of humanity.

Your membership in the Alliance represents the opportunity for us to strengthen the ties between us, to learn together, and to continue to ensure our efforts are as effective and meaningful at the local level as possible.

Our members have expressed deep interest in learning from one another, reflecting on the implications of research and field experience, and sharing their knowledge and experiences broadly with nonprofit leaders.

To this end, and to cultivate the connections between Alliance members, the Alliance is offering significant opportunities in 2017 to convene in person, learn and share

  • In April, we offered workshops and Interim Executive Director training at the Nonprofit Governance Conference at UMKC in Kansas City.
  • In October, we are curating member-led workshops for nonprofit leaders at the Board Source Leadership Forum in Seattle.
  • And in November, we are partnering with ARNOVA for our National Conference in Grand Rapids, Michigan (November 16-18).

Each of these events serves a unique purpose: Our partnership with UMKC brought our ETLC expertise to the Midwest and connected our governance colleagues from around the country; curating member-led workshops at national conferences and our regional events enable our members to share their knowledge with nonprofit leaders; and our partnership with ARNOVA is driven by our belief that the intersection of research and practice is critical to driving change in the field of capacity building and the nonprofit sector.

We would like to host three or four in-person convenings each year, creating more opportunities for the Alliance to come to your city. Please email me if you're interested in supporting an event in your area in 2018.

The Alliance is looking forward to an exciting year ahead. Thank you for contributing to our knowledge community and advancing social change.

In partnership,
Anne Yurasek
Board Chair
